Kazan Universiade 2013

Kazan was announced the capital of the World Summer Universiade of 2013 in May, 31 2008 in Brussels.

At present there are 28 objects in Kazan that after some modifications can be used for conducting competitions of the World Students Games. All in all, 64 sports objects are planned to be used during the Universiade.

The Universiade-2013 sports objects will be concentrated in 4 zones. This is the area of the Pobeda Avenue and the Orenburgsky Trakt where the Universiade Village will be located, as well as the Palace of Water Sports, Tennis Academy, Gymnastics Palace. A lot of sports objects will be located downtown of Kazan, and some of them in Novo-Savinovsky District. The fourth zone will be Zarechye with training grounds mainly.

These zones are planned to be connected by renewed highways with two-level flyovers, including a completed Big Kazan Ring. Also a new bridge over the Kazanka river is planned to be built - from the Youth Centre to the Baturin street. The main transport through-passage connecting sports objects with the Universiade Village will be the subway.

All sports objects should be ready by the end of 2012. After the Universiade the constructed new sports objects are planned to be given to high schools and universities of the capital of Tatarstan, to children and youth sport schools, to the Olympic reserve schools. After the competitions the Universiade Village will become a campus.

On May 5, in Kazan, the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin stately opened seven sports complexes of Universiade-2013. The opening took place in the "remote" mode: the objects were displayed alternately on the big screens.
In the standard universal sport complex "Vatan" and "Trimf", opened in December 2009, started the second phase. The complexes are used for training in basketball as part of the Universiade - 2013.

- SC Vatan is located in the Novo-Savinovskiy district of Kazan, between the streets Chuikova and Bondarenko.
- The complex "Triumph" is located in the Aviastroitelniy district of Kazan, between the streets of O. Koshevoi, Pobezhimova and Godovikova.
- Indoor Swimming Pool "Akcharlak" meeting the requirements of the association of water sports, is located in the Privolzhkiy district of Kazan on the Cul-Gali street, in the sports program of the World Student Games in 2013 will be used for the training of the swimmers.
- Sports Complex of Kazan State Architectural-Building Academy "Tezeche" during the Universiade - 2013 will be used as a training ground of volleyball-players.
- Sports Complex of the Kazan State Technological University "Miras" is located on Jawdat Faizi street. During the Universiade - 2013 it will be used as a competitive ground for the basketball team.
- Sports Complex of the Kazan State University, "Bustan", has the similar characteristics with the UK Miras, is located on Kulagina street and within the Universiade-2013 will be used for competition in volleyball.
- Sports Complex of Tatar State Humanitarian-Pedagogical University, "Moscow" is located on Moscovskaya street during the forthcoming Universiade will be used as a training ground for volleyball.

The Day of Kazan in Vancouver.
The members of The Russian Federation Olympic Committee, Russian and foreign journalists, sportsmen, fans were tasting tatar viands and listening tatar music until late at night, even tatar disco was organized.
The Day of Kazan started from presentation the capital of Tatarstan as the capital of Summer students' Games-2013. Then the broadened press-conference for Russian and foreign mass-media was held.

The deputy minister of sport, tourism and youth politics of Russian Federation Gennadiy Aleshin and the minister of sport and tourism of Tatarstan Marat Bariev greeted the guests of Kazan party in Vancouver.

The guests listened to tatar dance music with button accordion, all who wished were presented with tatar skullcaps, the surprise was the Tatar rap. Some plays were presented by virtuoso-balalaika player from Moscow Alexey Arhipovskiy, who took part in the Kazan's presentation in Brussels during the competition for the right to hold the Universiade.

However, the national colour was mixed with the performance of Russian stars - Vladimir Kuzmin and Andrey Makarevich played against the background with the symbol of Kazan Universiade-2013, nearly all those present sang along with them.
The delegation of Tatarstan will visit the press-centre of Olympiad, get to know the conditions of work of mass-media, see the Olympiad's facilities.

Until July 2012 Kazan will accept the tournaments of all 26 kinds of sport of Universiade-2013.

Test competitions in all kinds of sport that are included in the program of World Universiade 2013 must be held until July 2012 in Kazan (a year before holding the Universiade in the capital of Tatarstan). The World Students' games in Kazan will be held in 26 kinds of sport - 13 main and 13 additional.Kazan has set a record on the amount of additional kinds of sport. The world summer Universiade in Kazan will be held in 26 kinds of sport and will invite near 13,5 thousands of participants. 13 obligatory kinds of sport; diving, calisthenics, water-polo, volleyball, track and field athletics, judo, football, fencing, table tennis, artistic gymnastics, tennis, swimming, basketball, 13 additional kinds of sport, included in the main program of Games in Kazan: badminton, box, wrestling on waistbands, boat racing, kayak and kanoe-paddling, beach volleyball, rugby-7, sambo, synchronized swimming, shooting (bullet and trap and skeet), weight lifting, field hockey and chess. As a result, the World Students' Games will be held in 26 kinds of sport - it is a record for the Universiades. In the opinion of the First Vice President of the Russian Federation Government Igor Shuvalov the Universiade-2013 will transform Kazan into one of the best cities of the country.

6 more Universiade objects are already open.

- in a universal sport complex "Vatan" in Chuikov Street there is a hockey playground. At the time of the Universiade basketball competitions will take place there;

- a sport complex "Itil" in Daurskaya Street for team sports is located on the territory of the Kazan State Culture and Arts University. Later it will be given to the university;

- a 25-meter swimming pool in Vagapov Street completes an "Ak Bure" sport complex where there is already a playground for team sports and an ice rink. At the time of the Universiade water polo competitions will take place there;

- a universal sport complex "Тriumph" in Oleg Koshevoy Street includes a skating rink. The object is also intended for different public events, and at the time of the Universiade volley-ball competitions will take place there;

- a sport complex "Тulpar" in Farmskoye Shosse Highway is located on the territory of the Kazan State Agricultural University. It will belong to the University and at the time of the Universiade volley-ball competitions will take place there;

- a universal sport complex "Forward" in Khimikov Street includes a standard skating rink.It is also intended for public events and at the time of the Universiade it will be used as a sports ground for basketball players.

Let us remind that three Universiade objects - Tennis Academy, Fights Palace, "Zilant" sport complex in Kazan were completed in October before the "Russia is the Country of Sports" forum. The first stage of the trap shooting complex was also completed.

"The Universiade in Kazan will be a very important step on the way to the Olympiade of 2014 in Sochi. We will have to check out the readiness of volunteers, administrative machine on the whole", Igor Shuvalov (first deputy of the head of governemet) mentioned. "Universiade-2013 project in Kazan is a good reason to show the whole world how the future generation is taken care of," Igor Shuvalov is sure.
